It was definitely a very lucky Friday the 13th October with really stunning crisp sunny weather as the whole school walked to climb the Mound of Down. The P7s did an excellent job of assisting the P1s along the way. Our P4s also spent a very productive morning after the walk researching the wildlife round our school.
After a wonderful circuit (or two!) of the rings all the classes managed to make it to the top of the Mound. The morning stayed dry during our snack as we had a lovely picnic at the sports pavilion with our crisps and juice. All in all, everyone had a great morning out of school.
The money raised by the event is specifically targeted to go towards PTA funds which provide lots of resources for the children.
Equally important to the event was the wonderful atmosphere during the walk and how cheerfully everyone helped each other up and down the tricky bits.
I must thank the staff for their help during the morning and also the PTA members, Vicky ,who organised the juice and crisps for the children and Mark and Claire for their help setting out the picnic and doing the tidy up afterwards.
I must thank you, our parents, for your support. As you know the PTA is vital to our school and the children need your support as much as ever this year.
We will have more fundraising events this year—please be as generous as you can in supporting all our children in these very difficult financial times.

Splash And Dash 2022
The weather was glorious for the pupils and staff of Downpatrick Primary School recently as they took part in the PTA ‘Splash and Dash’ sponsored walk round the Mound of Down to raise money for PTA funds. It had been raining overnight but the clouds had been blown away and there was bright October sunshine all morning.
Vicky Haslett of the school’s PTA committee said, “The walk has got our fund-raising efforts for the children off to a great start this year. All the pupils took part and we were delighted with everyone’s enthusiasm especially the P7 children who each took a P1 pupil under their wing and held their hands through the muddy bits!”
She added, “The PTA is now looking forward to our special Christmas Fair on Thursday 1 December.”
Principal, Mr Niall Stevenson thanked the PTA for their efforts, “We use the Mound of Down and Down High pitches for our sponsored walk and the children really enjoyed being out splashing about, learning some local history and raising money as well!”
The children are bringing in their Sponsor Forms and we are planning to do the Golden Ticket Draw at our next assembly to find the Prize Winning Pupils!
