Table Tennis Club 2024
Mr Maginnis and 12 P7s had an absolute blast at our sessions of the Table Tennis Club. 🎉 We dived into the basics, focusing on the essentials - holding the bat and mastering the forehand drive shot! 🏓💪 👉 Holding the Bat: We kicked off by learning the proper way to hold our table tennis bats. It's all about finding that comfortable grip and maintaining control. The pupils did an awesome job experimenting with different holds and finding what suits them best! 🤝 👉 Forehand Drive Shot: Next up, we dove into the exciting world of forehand drive shots! We broke down the technique step by step, emphasising the importance of a balanced stance, proper angle, and a smooth follow-through. The pupils embraced the challenge, and by the end of the session, we saw some incredible forehand drives in action! 🚀 The energy and enthusiasm in the room were contagious, and it's clear that we have a group of budding table tennis stars in the making! 🌟🏓
Drama - Stage and Screen Club 2024
17 children from P6 and P7 enjoyed a range of drama activities with Miss Bates and Mr Maginnis as we prepare to make a short film over the next months. After some fun games of Wink Murder and Zip zap zop, our focus was on creating slideshow freeze frames linked to a theme. Check out the photos taken by the children themselves of their own freeze frames.
Rugby Club
The P5 and P6 children have been enjoying their Rugby Club sessions with Mr Stevenson over recent weeks. The children have been practising the basic elements of rugby, movement, spatial awareness, flexibility and ball handling. They have really improved their skills and are also learning the art of ‘Making their D’ by creating the defensive line and have really grasped the concept of the ‘offside line’ to give space to let the game flow. The club has been great fun and is open to both girls and boys and we have been blessed with great weather each Thursday afternoon. There are 3 more weeks of Rugby Club after half-term in November.
Cookery Club
Week 2 of cookery club was delicious! We made pancakes and chose from a variety of toppings to eat and enjoy them! We also made chocolate chip pancakes which were very tasty! We all helped measure out the ingredients, stir and mix and cooked them on the griddle! We can’t wait until our next session!
Cookery Club - Week 1 We had lots of fun at our first cookery club! We made mini pizzas and decorated biscuits! A great first week together and we look forward to more cookery next week!
Summer P6 & P7 Boys 7 Girls Rugby Club
The P6 and P7 children have been enjoying their Rugby Club sessions with Jonny Cullen, rugby development officer attached to Ballynahinch Rugby Club over recent weeks. Jonny has been introducing the basic elements of rugby, movement, spatial awareness, flexibility and ball handling to the children. The club has been great fun and has been open to both girls and boys. We have had the use of the grass Down High School pitches which has been great to allow the children to really have a go!
Rugby Club The P4 and P5 boys and girls have the chance to learn ball handling and running skills at the Touch Rugby Club. The club normally runs in the first and third terms.
Table Tennis Club
First meeting of our new table tennis club today. Lots of fun developing skills focusing on our grip, basic rallying and our serve. Emphasis today was on hitting softly and hitting up. Great to see so much progress made in under 60 minutes.
Week 2 - We had a visit from Jing Yi Graham who is the Commonwealth Games Coach (and former player) for Table Tennis Ulster will be in today to see our Table Tennis Club in action from 3pm – 3pm. She had lots of great training ideas and tips to keep our feet moving.
Around the World Club
The P5 and P6 pupils had a great first week at Around the World club! Our first country to learn about was France, so we built the Eiffel Tower using the lego bricks, took a virtual tour of the Louvre museum and tried some yummy French cuisine- croissants!
India - We learned all about India and different aspects of their culture, foods and cooking. Mrs Uddin very kindly brought us in some Indian dishes to try out. The food was amazing!
Board Games Club
We had great fun during week 1 of board games club. We played lots of different types of games, some traditional and some less conventional. We focused on turn-taking, social skills and having fun!
