Catrina Appointed to our School Cook Position
The staff and children were delighted to learn of the recent appointment of Mrs Catrina Young as our School Cook (Catering Supervisor Post). Catrina takes over the lead role in our School Meals Kitchen following the retirement of Mrs Bernie Quinn.
Catrina is very well known to the children and everyone in the school as she has been a member of the school kitchen staff for over 25 years. She is always a most helpful, kind and caring person for the children and has developed our Breakfast Club food offering as well as innovating in our very successful health Eating Tuck Shop. Mr Stevenson was delighted to present Catrina with a lovely bouquet of flowers from the staff to mark her success and to wish her all the best in her new role. Catrina has a deep connection to our school over many years – both her sons attended the school and her husband Philip is our super school caretaker!
Our School Cook Bernie Quinn retired and it made the front page of the Down Recorder - A fitting tribute to Bernie!

Harvest Assembly
As part of their special Harvest Assembly celebrations the Downpatrick Primary School pupils very generously brought food donations into school for The Fountain Foodbank which is based in Downpatrick and serves the needs of families from the local area. All the food is used locally to help families and people in need.
Mr Stevenson thanked the children and especially their parents for their tremendous generosity, “The children’s and staff’s donations filled six tables with tins, dried foods, pasta, beans, rice as well as breakfast cereals and bottles of pasta sauce and a wide range of other foods. Some donations included toothpaste, shower gel etc. as well as sanitary products. I and the staff were overwhelmed by the response from our families and staff members and I should like to thank everyone for their thoughtfulness and kindness.”
Rev Owen Patterson came in to talk to the children about the work of the Fountain Foodbank during the Harvest Assembly and to collect the foodstuffs which he then took away and will be sorted and stored by the Fountain Foodbank volunteers ready for use.
