The Ladybirds - 2024-2025
We will be adding events and activities to our web page as we go through the year. You can also catch up through our SeeSaw account and on Facebook.
Great news as we opened the doors for our new children in both classes on Friday 15 November. Below are some photos from Day 1.
First Day in our New SPEYF Classes - The Butterflies and The Ladybirds
It was a beautiful Friday morning in November when our two new classes opened their doors to their very first pupils. It was very exciting as the children came along with their parents and looking so well in their lovely new uniforms. They were straight into their new classrooms with hardly a backward glance at mums and dads as they became totally absorbed in trying out the morning activities in the Butterfly and Ladybird classrooms.
The two classes are part of Downpatrick Primary School’s Special Provision- Early Years Foundation Project. This project was funded by the Education Authority to meet the needs of local children for a quality Special Needs placement with experienced and qualified staff capable of meeting the children’s educational, social, emotional and communication needs.
The staff had spent long hours and days getting ready once the builders had completed their refurbishment of the classrooms. Rooms were cleaned, mopped, and swept. Many bits of furniture were built from flatpack and resources sourced and unpacked. Toys were sorted and sensory items purchased and curated to give the children security and reassurance. Many transition meetings were held as the staff developed a relationship with parents which is so important and got to know the children who started today.
As you will see from the photos everyone had a really good day and the teachers and classroom assistants loved getting to know their children.
