PTA Tractor Run - 20 May 2023
The Downpatrick Primary School PTA held their first ever Tractor Run on the afternoon of Saturday 20 May 2023. As well as the tractors on display there were classes for motorcycles and classic cars at the old RAF Bishopscourt site kindly granted by Bishopscourt Diff and Drift.
There was a very good turnout of tractors from the local area and even across from the peninsula some tractors came over on the Strangford Ferry. We also had a very interesting collection of classic cars and motorbikes on show too.
At 2pm the Tractor Run moved off on a route which took in Kilclief and along the coast past Ballyhornan and on to Ardglass village with the return coming back to Bishopscourt at 3pm.
Prizes were awarded to a Fiat 110-90 tractor, a Morris Minor car and a 1961 Honda Benley 125cc motorbike.
There was a very well supported Raffle with excellent prizes kindly donated by the following businesses:
Carryduff Autoparts, Martin Hanna and Sons, The Kismat Restaurant, Downpatrick
Roy Haslett Preparations, Castlescreen Farm, Angela Haslett and the Braniff family from Darraghcross.
Thanks must go to Chris Connor with his Ice-Cream van and Cathal and his guys on the Do-Nut Van and the Chip Van who provided the catering on the day. Thanks must also go to Down Hire who supplied the toilet facilities.
The PTA would like to thank all the volunteer helpers, teachers and committee members who helped with the marshalling and other duties during the event and especially Vicky Haslett who put in a tremendous effort to co-ordinate the whole event.
We all really enjoyed the afternoon and the PTA raised £508 for PTA funds which was a brilliant achievement. Already our plans are afoot for even bigger and better next year!
