April 2024 - Some of the P7 class were learning with Mr Maginnis how to combine drawing with creative photo editing techniques to develop new perspectives and help them deepen their capacity for self‑expression.
They were exploring the impact that saturation, exposure and contrast have on digital media plus got the chance to be creative by adding in their own colours and sketches.
Very impressive art work!

P7 Cricket Champions March 2024

We're thrilled to announce that our team of 10 talented P7s has emerged victorious in the Northern Cricket UnionCricket Blitz held at Downpatrick Leisure Centre on Thursday, 14th March.
They displayed outstanding sportsmanship and skill throughout the tournament, winning a total of 4 games and clinching victory in a closely contested final!
A huge round of applause to our amazing players for their hard work, determination, and teamwork! You've made the whole school incredibly proud!
Mr. Maginnis, the team coach, said "I couldn't be prouder of our team's performance today. They showed tremendous dedication and passion for cricket, and it's wonderful to see their hard work pay off after all their after school training sessions and practice."
He continued, "The level of sportsmanship and camaraderie displayed by our players was truly inspiring. They exemplify the values of teamwork and perseverance."

P7 - Dental Visit Feb 2024

🦷✨ We had an amazing visit on 22nd February 2024 from Susana, our local dental hygienist! 🌟

She came to educate our P7s about the importance of dental health, and it was truly eye-opening!

Here's an overview of what the session covered:
🔍 Tooth Decay: Susana explained how tooth decay occurs and the importance of proper dental care to prevent it.
🍬 Sugary Foods: She talked about the impact of sugary foods on our teeth and why it's essential to limit their consumption.
😁 Why Teeth Are Important: The children learned why maintaining healthy teeth is crucial for overall well-being and confidence.
🚿 Mouthwashes: Susana discussed the role of mouthwashes in oral hygiene and how they can complement brushing and flossing.
🦷 Interdental Cleaning: The importance of interdental cleaning (like flossing) was highlighted for maintaining optimal dental health.
⏰ Brushing Time: Susana emphasized how long we should brush our teeth for optimal cleaning and protection against cavities.
Our P7s were engaged and learned so much about keeping their smiles bright and healthy!

Safer Internet Day 2024 - visit from PSNI

On Safer Internet Day, we had a special visit from the Downpatrick Neighbourhood Policing team!

They came to talk to us about staying safe on the internet, and it was a very enlightening session indeed.
The officers shared valuable insights and tips on how to navigate the online world responsibly, emphasising the importance of SMART rules:

S - Safe: Be cautious and mindful of your actions online. Do not share personal information
M - Meet: Don’t meet up with strangers you have met online
A - Accepting: Think carefully before accepting friend requests or messages from strangers.
R - Reliable: Verify information before trusting and sharing it online.
T - Tell: Don't hesitate to tell a trusted adult if something online makes you feel uncomfortable or worried.

P7 Post SEAG treat December 2023

After all the hard work preparing for the two SEAG tests over the last months, the P7s enjoyed a treat day with pizza for lunch and a board game session in the morning.

P7 made cards for the resident of Abbeyfield House - November 2023

The P7s made cards for the residents of Abbeyfield House to cheer them up after the flood in Downpatrick affected their ability to get out and about.
The feedback from the residents was that they wanted the manager of the Abbeyfield "to pass on to Mr Maginnis and the children just how much the cards have meant to them. They said the cards have brightened up their day and they are very grateful to the children for taking the time to write to them. Really very much appreciated."

Maths Week 2023

Our awesome P7 class had a blast last week, joining nearly 200 other schools online for a live Izak 9 lesson! We dove into problem-solving, explored prime numbers, square numbers, and had a ton of fun working together in groups.
