World Book Day 2023
Happy World Book Day everyone! 📚🎉
On Thursday 2nd March, we celebrate the joy of reading and the power of books to transport us to different worlds and inspire our imagination.
I was especially excited to see all the P7 children dressed up as their favourite hero or villain book character! From Harry Potter to Cruella de Vil, it was so exciting to see the creative costumes that the children (and parents) came up with.
Remember, reading not only helps us improve our vocabulary and literacy skills, but it also broadens our understanding of the world and encourages empathy and understanding. So let's celebrate World Book Day by curling up with a good book and getting lost in a story.

P7 Film Buff Club November 2022
The P7s had a visit from Lorraine Into Film who launched the Film Buff Challenge which is an exciting way to engage with film like never before, by watching a wide range of short films that will challenge and open up viewing choices.
As well as being fun, Film Buff Challenge is also a powerful educational tool with a range of supporting activities and resources to explore key themes and topics.
We are looking forward to having the Film Buff Challenge take our P7 pupils on a magic carpet ride through different genres, countries and film mediums, to widen their horizons and broaden their knowledge of a world they may never have experienced before.

Maths Week 2022
The P7 class enjoyed using the iZak 9 Maths cubes in class. They worked in small groups to solve problems focusing on developing skills we have been looking at in class. Lots of teamwork and resilience. Lots of maths fluency. Lots of learning. Lots of fun.

The p7s have been learning to look after themselves, while learning how to use Scratch and working their way towards being independent programmers and coders. Great opportunities for creativity, problem solving and fun!

Ninja Maths Black Belt Winners!
Meet the first five Black Belt Winners during our daily mental maths session called NINJA MATHS.
Each day the children complete 30 questions. 10 mental strategies, 10 times tables and 10 focusing on key skills. Depending on their score out of 30 - they earn one of ten different belts.
The goal is FIVE Black Belts in a row and they will become a NINJA GRAND MASTER!!!

Reading Targets for Term 1 achieved
Each child in the P7 class was set a reading target of the number of words to aim to have read by the end of December and the first term. The children below did very well an achieved their target number of words. Some children beat their target by a large margin.

Healthy Minds and healthy bodies
Being active is not only great for the P7s’ physical health and fitness.
Evidence also shows it can also improve mental wellbeing by raising self-esteem and causing chemical changes in the brain which can help to positively change mood.
Great to have sport coaching from Stephen Watson who works with the The Irish Football Association.
Lots of fun games developing agility, accuracy, co-ordination and teamwork.
Fantastic to see the children having fun and being active

The P7s had experience in mixing colours and experimenting with warm/cool colours plus they developed skills at drawing different shapes.
P7 Coding Club November 2020
The P7s were delighted to take part in the second of six code club sessions today as part of the #TimeToCode "Code Along With…" initiative
This club took place in our P7 classroom and Darren connected remotely with us using Microsoft Teams.
He was visible on our giant screen panel and guided the lucky P7s through the steps to complete this these projects.
The second session focused on the children’s well-being as they used Scratch to code a virtual butterfly garden 🦋
