Green Day 2023
We had a special Whole School Green Day to celebrate our natural Environment and to help improve the beautiful surroundings we have in school.
The children had a non-uniform day and dressed in green to take part in the activities.
The children all had a fabulous time together digging, weeding and planting during our GREEN DAY.
Our school grounds have never looked so good. Each class had a flowering tree to plant, either an apple, a pear or a plum tree as well as other beautiful trees for us to enjoy for years and years.
The children also had the opportunity to plant seeds to take home and grow for themselves. We had developed OUR POLLINATOR GARDEN to attract bees and other pollinating insects which are so vital to the natural eco-system.
Some of our funding came from a grant made by the Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs.
The Live Here Love Here School Pollinator Garden grant was promoted through the Live Here Love Here collaborative partnership, involving DAERA, ten Local Councils, Northern Ireland Housing Executive and Keep Northern Ireland Beautiful.
We also received a generous donation of lots of seed packets and compost from Tesco, Newcastle.
Have a look at these photos showing some of our work.
