Kilmore Rec Tournament - 8 June 2026
Downpatrick Primary School proudly celebrated a fantastic day of football as two of our teams represented the school at the Kilmore Rec Primary Tournament. Our P7 and P6 squads competed against strong opposition from local schools across Crossgar, Killyleagh and Downpatrick, showing great skill, determination and teamwork throughout all of their matches.
Both teams grew into the tournament with every game. The goalkeepers were outstanding, making a series of crucial saves, while defenders, midfielders and strikers all played their part brilliantly. The P7 team performed superbly to progress straight into the semi-finals, while the P6 team showed their resilience with a brilliant 4–0 win in a play-off to join them.
An eagerly anticipated semi-final saw P6 take on P7 in a thrilling encounter. With chances at both ends, Mr Stevenson could only watch as both teams gave their all. In the final seconds, a dramatic handball decision awarded P6 a penalty — coolly converted to secure their place in the final.
The P6 team went on to deliver a sensational performance, winning 2–0 and lifting the trophy.
A huge thank you to parents for transport and support, and to Kilmore Rec for hosting such a superb tournament

Downpatrick Girls compete in the Moneyrea Futsal Competition - 3 June 2026
We brought an intrepid 7- girl team to the Moneyrea Futsal Competition. Due to the poor and changeable weather on the day it had to be held inside at the Moneyrea Community Centre.
There were 8 schools there on the day and some top quality football on display. Our girls were from P5-P7 and they gave a very good account of themselves against mainly all-P7 opposition.
We grew as a team through the seven matches and the girls kept going and going with brilliant tackling, passing, shooting and dribbling.
Everyone really enjoyed themselves and great sportsmanship displayed at all times!
Our thanks to Amelia-Rose’s big sister and Willow’s mum for helping with transport to and from the event.
