School Buddy System
At our school we want everyone to feel happy and safe. We want all our children to enjoy their time in class and also outside in the playground at break and at lunchtimes.
For many years we have had our very successful Buddy System in operation. The P7 children get the chance to apply to be a School Buddy - They apply and list why they want to become a Buddy. Mr Maginnis, our head of Pastoral Care, has two days of training for the children at the start of the first term and then they qualify as School Buddies.
The Buddies work on a rota system for each day of the week and they are out at breaktime and lunchtime. They help to look after the children in P1, P2 and the Hedgehogs class. They are on hand to help the teachers and classroom assistants to take care and look out for the children. They are especially trained to look out for a child who might not have anyone to play with at a particular time or encourage the children to play and include other children in the game.
The Buddies can also help in the dinner hall and learn great new people skills along the way.
Each month there's an award for the two Best Buddies which is chosen by the classroom assistants who can see who is being a super buddy and friend to the younger children.

Best Buddy Awards
Meet our P7 Buddies of the month for September 2024!
These TWO fantastic P7 buddies have truly exemplified what it means to be caring, responsible, and compassionate pupils. They have taken it upon themselves to look after our younger pupils in P1 and P2, ensuring their safety, happiness, and well-being during their most important breaks of the day.
Whether it's helping them find a spot to eat in the dinner hall, playing games outside, resolving little disputes, or just lending a friendly ear, these two amigos are always there, ready to lend a helping hand.
